Good bye Big Red!

Balu - like - these are just gross
Tonight's search is involving how to tell if an egg is fresh, before and after boiling.  Maybe I will mention the cheesecake one day that was accidentally blended with a bad egg.

Or tell you about Balut!  But that is not something I want to look at today.  Feel free to google it.

You see my favorite red hen was murdered, since that day I have found three nests of eggs.  Now I left the ones alone under the heat lamp as they are white, and I think I lost the hen that lays them as well.

No google search is answering me how thoroughly I want to know.  So I tried to look at them over a bright bulb.  Have no idea if it was the brown shell color or the inside that had a smooth cast.

SO I am boiling some, tossed the floaters, and will keep the others separate in the refer so that I can check before adding to anything including a pan.

Here is the fall clutch that Big Red had - unknown to me really.  Unfortunately at this time of year they only become flying predator food.  Red must have been attacked during the day as she sits on the barn rafters at night with the other survivors.  Unless, of course, she was sitting on another winter nest.
